Just six games after moving into the starting lineup, Minnesota Timbewolves guard Donte DiVincenzo is sidelined indefinitely with a toe injury.

The Timberwolves announced the injury Monday afternoon ahead of their Martin Luther King Jr. Day game against the Memphis Grizzlies. The injury is a Grade 3 sprain to DiVincenzo’s left big toe. He suffered it on Wednesday against the Warriors and had missed two games with the injury prior to Monday’s.

Per the Timberwolves, they’re seeking a second opinion to determine the best treatment options. DiVincenzo was wearing a walking boot in Minnesota’s locker room prior to the game against the Grizzlies.

DiVincenzo joined the Timberwolves in the offseason in the trade that sent Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks in exchange for a package that also included Julius Randle and a first-round pick. DiVincenzo started the season coming off the bench, but moved into the starting lineup in favor of Mike Conley on Jan. 6 against the Los Angeles Clippers.

In six games as a starter, DiVincenzo averaged 17.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game while shooting 42.1% (24 of 57) from 3-point distance. In 40 games total in Minnesota, DiVincenzo has averaged 11 points 3.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game while shooting 36.9% from 3.

The Timberwolves were 4-2 in the games since DiVincenzo moved into the starting lineup. After advancing to the Western Conference finals last season, they entered Monday at 22-20, good for eighth place in the West.
