Thursday Night Football: Chiefs WR Hollywood Brown to miss opener vs. Ravens with shoulder injury

The Kansas City Chiefs have ruled out wide receiver Hollywood Brown for Thursday’s NFL opener against the Baltimore Ravens due a shoulder injury.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said on Friday that Brown was unlikely to play after suffering the injury during the team’s first preseason game in August. The 27-year-old Brown is in his first season with the Chiefs after spending the last five seasons with the Ravens and Arizona Cardinals.

Brown is expected to miss between 4-6 weeks.

The Chiefs will still have Rashee Rice, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Xavier Worthy, Justin Watson, Skyy Moore, and Mecole Hardman as options at wide receiver for quarterback Patrick Mahomes, along with tight end Travis Kelce.

Brown signed a one-year contract with the Chiefs in March, with the deal worth up to $11 million. He will miss the chance to play against his former team in the Ravens, who drafted him 25th overall in 2019.

Brown spent the past two seasons with the Cardinals. He caught 51 receptions for 574 yards and four touchdowns, with the first two being career lows.

All other players who were listed on the Chiefs’ injury report this week, including defensive lineman Chris Jones and guard Joe Thuney, were marked as full participants in practice and are expected to be available.
