Do the New York Giants have a roster capable of competing in the NFC? Are they just a quarterback away from being playoff contenders?
NFL Network and FOX Sports analyst Peter Schrager, who grew up a Giants fan, believes they are.
“They’re a quarterback away. They don’t have a quarterback,” Schrager said. “It’s hard to win football games without a quarterback but there are pieces there. Call me an optimist or maybe it’s because I grew up in New Jersey (but) the Giants aren’t that far off.
“Throw in Aaron Rodgers. Throw in Russell Wilson. Draft a quarterback. I think the Giants are on their way and could be competitive this year. Call me crazy.”
Although Schrager has an admitted rooting interest in the Giants and acknowledges his roots, his argument is no different than many others. For the past several years, the consensus has been that the Giants are just a solid quarterback away. It’s a stance that has spanned multiple regimes.
However, the Giants do have issues beyond just the quarterback position. They need health and consistency along their offensive line and without that, it won’t matter who’s under center. But if general manager Joe Schoen does as well in the 2025 NFL draft as he did in the 2024 NFL draft, perhaps the Giants will be one step closer to competing.
Still, they do need to find some competency at quarterback. Unfortunately, they continue to struggle with that and currently have a QB room that consists of only one man: Tommy DeVito.
